MISTING SYSTEMS - FAQ's

Pulley Drive Misting Pump 1000psi

What is the difference between a pulley drive misting pump and a direct drive misting pump.

Precision Mist pulley drive pumps turn at a much lower rpm than a direct drive misting pump, typically at 400rpm-1400rpm in return allows them to run at a much quieter noise decibel. Pulley pump crank cases have a larger oil capacity, this combined with low rpm allows the pulley pump to run much cooler than a direct drive pump.  Precision Mist direct drive misting pumps operate at 1725rpm and are designed with a hollow shaft mounted directly to the motor flange. Our complete direct drive pumps come with the new generation 3-EP models by General Pump Company, you can be sure it is the quietest direct drive on the market.

If you're looking for the most innovative misting products, the highest quality parts, with the best customer service, look no further than Precision Mist.

What size misting pump do I need?

Choosing a misting pump ultimately depends on the linear footage, nozzle count and nozzle orifice size you're using to cool the area. Each nozzle orifice size has a different gallon per minute flow rate. If the environment is dry and hot, we typically recommend a higher flow rate (.012" = .028 gpm), if the environment is humid and hot, we recommend a lower flow rate (.008" = .024 gpm). The formula to find the exact size pump you will need will entail multiplying the nozzle flow rate by the total nozzle count on your misting system.

For instance, if your misting system has a nozzle count of x35 - .012" orifice size nozzles, you will multiple the .028 gpm flow rate by the nozzle count of x35, this equation will come to .98 in return will be a 1.0 gpm misting pump. Each nozzle size and flow rate are is listed in each description.

How to install a misting system?

Installing your misting system is simple. Measure the linear footage of your patio and match it to one of our misting kits in our categories. Check out our detailed installation guides and videos on our website and on YouTube. When you purchase a professional misting system kit from Precision Mist, you can be sure our customer support is at your finger tips. We are just one call away.

What is better, installing misting fans or installing misting tube around my patio?

Ideally both. Misting fans are great for cooling both hot and humid climates. Our misting fans allow for the most efficient flash evaporation on humid days, at the same time our SS misting tube is great for a perfect skirt of mist around your patio to block the heat on the hottest days.

Is any maintenance needed for my misting system?

Yes, just like most equipment, misting systems have a few maintenance concerns to keep in mind. At the core of every misting system is a pump face and motor, which can work for many years with the proper care. The main way to conduct maintenance on the system is by checking the oil and changing it during summer usage. Other tasks that should be consistently performed is periodically cleaning of the nozzles. Also, the system must be fully drained before every winter season along with a filter change. By following these basic applications, our systems are guaranteed to work perfectly for many more years!

Can I turn the mist up or down?

High pressure misting systems are designed to operate at 1000psi, 1725rpm. You wont be able to turn the misting system up or down but you can certainly design your misting system to operate different zones in your yard or patio, from this, it will allow you to separate what areas that you want on or off at any given time.

What type of misting nozzles do I need?

There is misting nozzles for all types of applications. Precision Mist offers misting nozzles for dry climates, humid climates, fog effects, grocery produce, dairy, greenhouses, dust control, low pressure/ high pressure and more. If you need to replace a misting nozzle, we recommend to identify the thread size, orifice size and if it is anti drip or non-anti drip type.

Does high pressure misting systems work?

The answer is yes, misting systems work significantly especially in dry climates. A quality misting pump is key to having an optimal performing misting system, our quality misting pumps will increase the water pressure by over 10x its normal rate, creating the most effective and comfortable experience possible.

What is the difference between a low pressure misting system and a high pressure misting system?

A low pressure mist system is applied to a standard hose or tap pressure of 30psi to 75psi and consist of larger micron droplets of mist that typically soak the area of water, hence without high pressure pump the water cannot be atomized into fine micron droplets, which causes the cooling effect of flash evaporation. High pressure mist systems operate at 1000psi, thus allowing the mist to be vaporized and reaching the maximum and most effective cooling possible.

How many nozzles can I use with a low-pressure misting system?

The majority of our products are designed for expansion. Low pressure systems are limited by spigot pressure and the distance being traversed. We have distinguished that the city water pressure of 50 to 75 PSI supports a maximum of 30 standard .012" to .014" nozzles. This set-up can account for about 80ft of tubing. Once this distance is exceeded, flow reduction will become an issue. Every one of our retro kits is designed for low and high pressures.
